The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor, D. Subbarao, on Thursday said that the central bank was examining if the remittances made by Ponzi company Speak Asia were in order.
Reacting to the Headlines Today expose on Speak Asia, Subbarao said though the RBI approval was not needed for current account transactions as commercial banks were authorised to do that, it was scrutinising the remittances made by the company.
He said the RBI did not regulate multi-level marketing companies like, Speak Asia. He said the RBI has issued an advertisement alerting the public against falling prey to alluring offers. The RBI governor even sought the help of media to help the central bank in cautioning the public.

ED to probe financial set up of Speak Asia

 The Enforcement Directorate (ED) would begin a probe into the financial set up of Singapore-based online survey company Speak Asia.

The development comes about a month after Headlines Today blew the lid off the controversial company. The ED would investigate the money flow of Speak Asia and how it collected crores of rupees from 19 lakh Indian investors through various entities, opened accounts in Indian banks and than transferred the money to Haren Ventures Ltd in Singapore.

Haren Ventures is the front company, owned by Speak Asia CEO Harender Kaur.

ED would track the flow of money to find out if the company was involved in money laundering.

Speak Asia was in the spotlight recently for giving more than 500 per cent return to investors violating the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) rules. It had also violated RBI norms by collecting crores of rupees from gullible investors and transacting abroad without a head office in India.

The ministry of corporate affairs had earlier said that it could not investigate Speak Asia because the company was not registered in India and the ministry did not have the company's database. Singapore-based United Overseas Bank had closed the bank accounts of Speak Asia following the Headlines Today expose last month.

Speak Asia however said on Tuesday that it had not received any intimation about the ED probe. In a statement, the company said: "We are yet to receive any intimation, notice, letter or questionnaire from the Enforcement Directorate or any other wing or department of any government agency/authority."

"As stated previously, we would like to reiterate that we will extend our fullest cooperation to any agency that approaches us for any investigation. Speak Asia is committed to the growth and prosperity of its panellists in India and is here to stay," the statement added.

ED registers money laundering case against Speak Asia    5-1-2012Mumbai: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday registered a case against Speak Asia, a Singapore-based online survey company, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act in connection with a multi-level marketing scam, sources said.
The firm had allegedly duped over 12 lakh investors, also called as panelists, to the tune of Rs 1,300 crore, after assuring them commission if they introduced new members.
Speak Asia had promised lucrative returns to its investors, who were asked to pay a fee to register with it, through a multi-marketing pyramid model.
The city police had earlier arrested Speak Asia's Chief Operating Officer in India (COO) Tarak Bajpai, Financial Manager Ravi Khanna, the web portal's technicians Rajeev Malhotra, and Rais Khan and panelist Deepankar Sarkar.

नई दिल्ली। प्रवर्तन निदेशालय ने लाखों लोगों को चूना लगा चुकी मल्टी मार्केटिंग कंपनी स्पीक एशिया के खिलाफ शिकंजा और कस दिया है। कंपनी के खिलाफ प्रवर्तन निदेशालय ने प्रिवेन्शन ऑफ मनी लॉड्रिंग एक्ट के तहत मामला दर्ज किया है। अब विभाग स्पीक एशिया के करोड़ों की अवैघ लेनदेन की जानकारियां खंगालने में जुट गई है। गौरतलब है कि धोखधड़ी के मामले में पहले ही कंपनी के 4 लोग गिरफ्तार किया जा चुका है।

ईडी ने 900 करोड़ के घोटाले को परत दर परत जांचने के लिए मामला दर्ज कर लिया है। ईडी के सूत्रों की मानें तो मल्टी लेवल मार्केटिंग कंपनी स्पीक एशिया ने 900 करोड़ में से 100 करोड़ से ज्यादा की रकम सिंगापुर के रास्ते लैटिन अमेरिका और ब्राजील की कई कंपनियों में इनवेस्ट कर दी है।

कानूनी शिकंजे से बचने के लिए कंपनी अलग अलग बिजनेस में निवेश कर ब्लैक मनी को व्हाइट करने में जुटी हुई है।

सूत्रों के मुताबिक स्पीक एशिया इन कंपनियों से हो रहे मुनाफे को ब्राजील की एक मल्टीलेवल मार्केटिंग कंपनी में निवेश कर रही है। दूसरी तरफ स्पीक एशिया के सीईओ मनोज कुमार का कहना है कि ईडी को उन्होंने अपना प्लान बताया और इन्वेस्टमेंट रुट के बारे में भी जानकारी दी लेकिन ईडी आम लोगों का पैसा लोगों तक पहुचने नहीं देना चाहती है। कंपनी पैसे कहीं नहीं लगा रही है। किसी कम्पनी में नहीं लगा रही है।

गौरतलब है कि फर्जीवाड़े और घोटाले को लेकर अब तक कंपनी के पांच लोग गिरफ्तार किए जा चुके हैं लेकिन स्पीक एशिया इंडिया के सीओओ तारक वाजपेयी पुलिस को चकमा देकर फरार होने में कामयाब हो चुका है। मुंबई पुलिस के क्राइम ब्रांच समेत कई एजेंसियां अब इस बात का पता करने में लगी हैं कि आखिर किस तरह से स्पीक एशिया ने देश के लाखों लोगों के साथ धोखाधड़ी की। करोड़ों अरबों रुपयों की हेराफेरी करने में कामयाब रहा।
